In this class you will learn how to turn your scrap silver into usable pieces of metal. This workshop is for recycling 'clean scrap', for instance sheet and wire offcuts commonly accumulated by jewellers and silversmiths.
The first part of this class will discuss silver alloys, how these are created and what these alloys are used for.
We'll then move onto demonstrations of how to prepare metal for melting, melting metal and creating a piece that can be worked into sheet or wire.
Following demonstrations students will be able to melt down their own scrap and form sheet and wire ready to start working on a piece of jewellery.
Please note: You may bring in scrap old jewellery and miscellaneous gold or silver items to recycle, however, items may not be suitable for melting. Please contact us if you are unsure.
All levels welcome!
We take half an hour for lunch around 1pm, packed lunches are advised and can be eaten at the studio. Tea and coffee provided throughout the day.
