Course Overview

Beginner Jewellery Course – 2 Day Silver & Stone Setting

A 2-day beginner jewellery course teaching essential stone setting skills. Make a silver ring with a faceted stone and a cabochon pendant.

Class size: Limited to 6 spaces

Ready to step into the world of jewellery making? Our Beginner Jewellery Course – 2 Day Silver & Stone Setting is the perfect hands-on introduction for anyone curious about creating beautiful, stone-set jewellery from scratch. Over two days you’ll learn to make two beautiful silver pieces using both faceted and cabochon stones.

On completion of this course you should have a solid foundation in jewellery making techniques and learn how to use all the necessary tools to enable you to create beautiful jewellery pieces from home. Plus, you’ll leave the course with two professionally finished pieces.

Course Schedule

Day 1 – Tube Set Ring: Craft your own silver ring and set a faceted stone using a classic tube setting technique.

  • Introduction to tools and safety
  • Shaping and soldering your silver ring
  • Creating a tube setting for a faceted stone
  • Setting and polishing

Day 2 – Cabochon Pendant: Create a pendant featuring a cabochon stone in a traditional rub-over setting.

  • Forming and soldering a bezel setting
  • Fitting and setting the cabochon
  • Finishing
  • Guidance on setting up a home jewellery workshop: Learn how to set up a home workshop to suit all types of budget.

Workshop Safety

As a student you are responsible for your own safety in the workshop. The most important things to remember are;

  • Please listen to directions from your tutor to ensure you know how to use all the equipment safely and correctly.
  • Do not operate equipment you do not know how to use.
  • Covered footwear is required and absolutely no high heels.
  • Tie back long hair when using motorised equipment.
  • Please respect others and don’t interrupt students who are soldering, using the drill or any other equipment that could create a safety concern if the operator is distracted.
  • Remember to take all your belongings with you when you leave.
  • Please leave all unnecessary personal items at home.

You will need to bring

  • Your own apron, to protect your clothes.
  • Packed lunches are recommended if your class runs for a full day.

Please do not attend the workshop if

  • You feel unwell.
